First steps
1926
The first cross-country skiing competitions took place as far back as 1926. They were extremely grueling, as they were held on terrain with steep climbs. The course ran from Rateče to Tamar and then back to Planica, with the finish line near today’s out-run of the ski flying hill.
The beautiful natural surroundings and ideal conditions for winter sports led to the idea of building a modern ski center. Along with the development of the sport, Planica has become a popular destination for tourists and nature lovers alike.
